Terms of service

Effective October 10, 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and Kilowhiz for using kilowhiz.com. By signing in you agree to them and to our privacy policy. If you do not agree, do not use Kilowhiz.

The short version: Kilowhiz tells you which electricity plan would cost your home the least, priced on your own usage. It is an estimate, not a guarantee. You enroll yourself, with the provider, on the provider's terms. Your assessment is free, and anything paid shows its price before you pay. Use Kilowhiz for your own home, not to copy our data.

Who we are

Kilowhiz is operated in Texas by Sean Janoe, doing business as Kilowhiz. It is registered with the Public Utility Commission of Texas as an electricity broker (No. BR260211). Kilowhiz is not a retail electric provider or a utility, and it is not the agent of one. Our broker disclosures say how we are paid and how to complain to the Commission, and they are part of these terms.

What your assessment is

Kilowhiz prices the plans sold at your address on your home's usage and tells you which one would cost the least, with the reasons.

An estimate, not a guarantee. Your assessment is arithmetic on three things: your usage (your meter readings once you connect Smart Meter Texas, otherwise the usage printed on your bills or a modeled year), each plan's Electricity Facts Label (EFL) and terms as we read them, and your utility's delivery charges. Past usage does not promise future usage. Weather, a new appliance or a new schedule changes what you use, and your bill follows. We do not guarantee a saving, a bill amount, or that a plan will still be sold at the price we showed.

The provider's documents govern. Providers change prices and EFLs often, sometimes daily. Every figure we show carries the date we read it. Before you enroll, read the EFL, the Terms of Service and the Your Rights as a Customer document on the provider's own site. Where they differ from what Kilowhiz showed, the provider's documents control.

Information, not advice. Kilowhiz does not give legal, tax or financial advice. Whether to switch, stay or wait is your decision.

Enrolling in a plan

Kilowhiz does not enroll you, and you make no contract for electricity with us. When you choose a plan you enroll on the provider's own site, and that contract is between you and the provider. The provider decides whether to accept you, what deposit it asks for and when service starts. We never ask for your Social Security number, date of birth or payment card for an enrollment. An early-termination fee on the plan you leave is owed to that provider. We show it where we know it, and confirming it before you switch is up to you.

Your account

You must be at least 18 and able to enter a contract. You sign in with a link or a code sent to your email, so anyone who can open that mailbox can open your account. Keep it secure, and write to support@kilowhiz.com if you think someone else has signed in. Give us accurate information: an assessment built on the wrong address or someone else's bill is wrong.

Your home, your documents and your meter readings

Use Kilowhiz only for a home whose electricity account is yours, or one whose account holder has authorized you. When you ask us to connect Smart Meter Texas, you confirm that you are the customer of record for that meter or that you act with that customer's permission.

What you give us stays yours. You give Kilowhiz permission to store and process your documents, your answers and your meter readings to produce your assessment and run the features you use, as the privacy policy describes. That permission ends when you delete the item or your account.

Paid features

Your assessment is free. Anything Kilowhiz charges for shows its price, and what it buys, before you pay. You pay by card on a page hosted by Stripe, our payment processor. We keep the receipt and never see or store the card.

The unlock. When your assessment finds a saving worth switching for, the name of the recommended plan may sit behind a one-time unlock. Before you pay, we tell you whether we expect you to save. One unlock covers one home for a 30-day shopping window. Re-runs of your assessment for that home inside the window are included. After the window closes, a new window is a new unlock.

Whiz+. Whiz+ is an optional membership for one home, sold by the year. While your membership is active you keep your recommendation for that home and its re-checks. The subscription renews each year, at the price then in effect, on the card on file, until you cancel. If the price changes, we email you before your next renewal. You can cancel at any time from your Account page. A canceled membership stays active to the end of the year you paid for and does not renew. If a renewal payment fails and is not put right, the membership ends. An unlock you paid for, and that was not refunded, is credited once against your first Whiz+ payment.

Refunds. Payments are not refundable once made, except where the law requires it. If something went wrong, such as a charge made twice or an unlock that showed you nothing you could use, write to support@kilowhiz.com. We review every request and refund where that is the fair result.

Taxes. Whether sales tax is included in a price or added to it is stated before you pay.

Acceptable use

Kilowhiz is for finding a plan for your own home. You agree not to:

We limit how many address searches and document reads an account can run, and we may suspend an account that breaks these rules.

Our content

The site, its software, the rankings, the explanations and the methodology belong to Kilowhiz. You may use them for your own personal, non-commercial purposes. Public documents we show you, such as a provider's EFL, belong to their owners.

Information from others

We rely on sources we do not control: Smart Meter Texas and your utility for meter readings, the Public Utility Commission's Power to Choose listings and each provider's own published documents for plans and prices, and county appraisal records and licensed property data for details about your home. Any of them can be late, incomplete or wrong, and a provider's site can change after we read it. A link to a provider's site takes you off Kilowhiz, and that site is the provider's responsibility.

Disclaimers

Kilowhiz is provided as is and as available. To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that Kilowhiz will be uninterrupted or free of errors, or that any result is accurate, complete or current.

Limit of liability

To the extent the law allows, Kilowhiz is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost savings, an electricity bill higher than an estimate, an early-termination fee, or anything a provider or utility does or fails to do. Our total liability for all claims about Kilowhiz or these terms is limited to the greater of $50 or what you paid Kilowhiz in the 12 months before the claim arose. Nothing in these terms limits a right or remedy that the law does not allow to be limited or waived.

Ending this agreement

You can stop using Kilowhiz at any time and delete your account from the Account tab. There is no fee for ending the service. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and we may stop offering Kilowhiz. If we close your account for any reason other than a breach of these terms while a paid membership is running, we refund the unused part of the year. The sections on our content, disclaimers, the limit of liability and disputes continue after the agreement ends.

Complaints, disputes and governing law

Tell us first at support@kilowhiz.com and we will work to resolve it. You also have the right to complain to the Public Utility Commission of Texas at any time. Nothing in these terms limits that right or requires arbitration, and how to reach the Commission is on our broker disclosures.

Texas law governs these terms. A lawsuit about Kilowhiz or these terms is brought in the state or federal courts serving Galveston County, Texas, and you and Kilowhiz both consent to those courts. Either of us may instead bring a claim that qualifies in small claims court where you live.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms, we update the date at the top. For a change that matters to you, we email you before it takes effect. The terms in force when you sign in are the ones you agree to, and we record which version that was. If you do not accept a change, stop using Kilowhiz and delete your account.

General

These terms, the privacy policy and the broker disclosures are the whole agreement between you and Kilowhiz. If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest stays in force. If we do not enforce a term, we have not given it up. Kilowhiz may transfer this agreement to a successor that operates the service, such as a company formed to take over the business, and we will tell you if that happens.
