Kilowhiz is free during beta and receives no payment from any electricity provider. When a provider does pay a referral fee for an enrollment through Kilowhiz, that fee prints on the plan it belongs to, and rankings never consider who pays. Before you start
Do I have to pay to switch?
No. The assessment, the alternatives, the plan details and the hand-off to the provider's site are free. Whiz+ and Whiz Pro add ongoing monitoring, the detailed usage dashboard and chat.
How do you make money?
Kilowhiz is free during beta and receives no payment from any electricity provider. When a provider pays a referral fee for an enrollment through Kilowhiz, the fee prints on that plan, and rankings never consider it. Whiz+ and Whiz Pro are the only things we sell you. The whole policy.
Do you need my utility password?
No. You approve read-only access to your usage through Smart Meter Texas, in an email it sends you. That approval does not let anyone switch your provider, and you can revoke it any time.
How long does it take?
About ten minutes of yours: your address, one recent bill, one tap on the Smart Meter Texas email. Then the meter data arrives on its own, usually within the hour, and your assessment is waiting when you come back.
What if I should stay on my current plan?
Then that is the assessment, free, with the numbers that show it. A good answer is sometimes "do nothing".
Can I check the math?
Every figure has a receipt: the rate, the delivery charges, the credits your months did or did not earn, and your own last bill reconstructed. The method is public on the methodology page.
Kilowhiz is an independent analytics service and a registered Texas electricity broker, not a retail electric provider. Your identity and the card you enroll with go to the provider directly and never pass through us. How the math works
