How we make money
Free comparison sites are paid by the providers they list. So are we, once a provider signs a referral agreement. The difference is what that payment is allowed to touch. Here is the whole policy, in the order you would ask.
Your assessment is free
Pricing every plan sold at your address against your own meter data, naming the traps on the plan you are on, telling you whether to switch, stay or wait, and handing you to the provider's site when you choose to switch: all of that is free. If the answer is “stay on the plan you have”, that is free too.
Who pays us today
Kilowhiz is free during beta and receives no payment from any electricity provider. No provider owns any part of Kilowhiz, and none is affiliated with it. That sentence is the same one on our broker disclosures page, and it changes only when the fact changes.
What changes the day a provider does pay
We are asking providers for referral agreements: a fee to Kilowhiz when someone enrolls through our link. When one signs, three things happen the same day. The sentence above changes to say who pays. The hand-off card for that provider's plans says what they pay and that it did not affect the ranking. And nothing else moves: not the ranking, not the numbers, not where a plan sits on your list.
The ranking policy: plans are ordered by the cost your own meter data produces when it runs through each plan's rate structure, with the conditions that matter (credits your months miss, time-of-use windows, term length, cancellation fees) shown beside the number. The ranking code never reads the commission field. Every figure carries a receipt you can check, and the method is public.
What we sell you
Two subscriptions, both optional and both about the year after the assessment. Whiz+ ($15/yr) watches one property: renewal and holdover alerts, a fresh assessment when the market moves, the detailed usage dashboard, and chat for the odd questions and the what-ifs. Whiz Pro ($35/yr) does the same for up to three properties, four properties $45 a year, five $55. Nothing switches your plan for you; you always enroll yourself. Pricing.
How to stop
Any time, with nothing owed. Revoke the Smart Meter Texas sharing from your account page or from Smart Meter Texas itself, cancel a subscription from the same page, and delete your account, which removes your meter data, your documents and your assessments. What we hold and what we never do.
