How we make money
Providers pay the free comparison sites that list them, so the plan at the top of the list is usually the one that pays. We charge you $5 for the plan we found. A provider pays us too, when you enroll in one of its plans through our partner link. Here is exactly what that payment may touch, in the order you would ask.
What is free, and what you pay $5 for
The assessment is free. It prices every plan sold at your address on your own meter readings. It names the traps on your current plan, and it tells you whether to switch, stay or wait. If the answer is “stay on the plan you have”, that is free too.
The one thing you pay us for is the plan we found: $5, once per home per 30-day shopping window. Before you pay, we say whether we expect a saving worth having.
A plan whose provider pays us when you enroll is the exception. It opens free, with what the provider pays printed on it. It sits wherever your meter readings put it. A payment to us never moves a plan up the list and never hides one behind the unlock fee.
Who pays us today
Kilowhiz charges customers an unlock fee of $5, once per home per 30-day shopping window. Some electricity providers pay Kilowhiz when you enroll in one of their plans through our partner link. Today those providers are Chariot Energy, True Power and Payless Power. No provider owns any part of Kilowhiz, and none is affiliated with it.The words in bold are the same as on our broker disclosures page, and they change only when the facts change.
What happens when a provider pays
Some providers have signed referral agreements with us, and we are asking more. Under those agreements, a provider pays Kilowhiz when someone enrolls through our partner link. A partner link is a sign-up link that tells the provider you came from us. We name a provider above from the day one of its plans is on a partner link here.
For a plan that pays us, the card that takes you to the provider's sign-up page says what the provider pays, and that the payment did not affect the ranking. Those plans open without the unlock fee. A plan we link to without a partner link pays us nothing, and its card says that too. And nothing else moves: not the ranking, not the numbers, not where a plan sits on your list.
The ranking policy: we order plans by what each would cost on your own meter readings, run through all of its charges. Beside each number we show what matters: credits your months miss, prices that change by the hour, contract length and early-termination fees. The ranking code never reads what a provider pays us. Every figure carries a receipt you can check, and the method is public.
What we sell you
The unlock ($5) is one payment for the plan we found, per home, good for a 30-day shopping window. Re-runs inside that window cost nothing, and we credit it once against your first Whiz+ year if you take one.
Whiz+ ($10/yr), when it opens, will be an optional membership for the year after the assessment. It will watch one property. You will get an alert before a contract you didn't switch through us ends or rolls onto a higher month-to-month rate. You will also get a fresh assessment when the market moves, the detailed usage dashboard, and chat for odd questions and what-ifs.
Whiz Pro ($35/yr), when it opens, will do the same for up to three properties, four properties $45 a year, five $55. Nothing switches your plan for you; you always enroll yourself. Pricing.
How to stop
Any time, with nothing owed. To end Smart Meter Texas access, tap Revoke access on your account page, or end it at smartmetertexas.com. Cancel a subscription from the same page. Delete your account, and we remove your meter readings, your documents and your assessments. We keep only a short record of what you agreed to and when, for two years, as the Commission's broker rules require. What we hold and what we never do.
